See if there's a log file in ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft.If you find any issues at all, please post a comment here and include the following: Do you get an error message, or did it work? If it worked, can you start the game? What about if you go offline before launching it, does it still work? What if you deleted ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft, does it handle that nicely? We will test the self-updating a few times over the course of the day, so be prepared to allow it to download up to 55MB a few times over. Note that the visual launcher itself has not changed, so any bugs in that are probably pre-existing and we aren't looking to fix those right now (but will very soon there's some big changes coming!). Please give it a test and let me know any issues you encounter with it. Sorry, but Java itself isn't supported on anything lower. There is one caveat: You must be running at least Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) or newer. Just open up the link, drag the Minecraft icon to your applications folder, and you're all done. It does not require Java to be installed, nor any other dependencies. You will find, at the bottom of this small wall of text, a link to the new fancy Native OSX Launcher.
